Viticulture

“The Clare Valley is internationally recognised for three major varieties Riesling in whites and Shiraz and Cabernet in reds. The Cabernets generally benefit from blending with various amounts of other red varieties to maximise their structure and appeal.”

I no longer grow my own grapes but I select grapes from some of the best vineyards and growers in the valley.

The Clare Valley is one of the most picturesque wine regions in the world. Its wonderful warm dry summers with low humidity and cool nights make it as disease free as vineyards can be. Those cool nights keep our average ripening temperature down and allows us to sleep at night as well.

Solid winter rains and moisture grabbing clays over good draining limestone or slate are ideal soils for minimal watering and premium grape growing.
