The 1st Reserve Riesling I have bottled as Erin Eyes but this near classic vintage and a great vineyard called out for it.
A single vineyard in the Penwortham micro climate displayed outstanding fruit on the vine and when it came into the winery.
This vineyard not only provide fruit of outstanding lime, grapefruit and lemon flower characters but high natural acidity. Contrary to what one would think this actually mellows the rich fruit and gives it a softer edge.
Aroma – A whole lot is happening here with so many aromas it is a hard lot list. Definitely the ripe citrus aromas but musk, rose petals and floral perfumes.
Palate – As with the nose there are a complexity of flavours just dancing in the mouth. Lime, orange peel, you name it. The great natural acidity is the background to what I think will be a top wine.
Sit out in the Winter sun, warm Spring air and even sheltered Summer heat and I would happily drink this wine alone or with oysters. In fact any lighter meal.
