Steve Wiblin’s 2013 Erin Eyes Chardonnay (Adelaide Hills)

Chardonnay is not the strongest white variety in the Clare Valley so I opted to purchase 4 tonnes of Lenswood Chardonnay to make an alternative white wine to Riesling. Picked at a good ripeness for Chardonnay (13.5 Baume) the juice was fermented in 2nd year French oak.

Bouquet. A lovely bouquet of passionfruit and pears with a subtle hint of vanillan oak.

Palate. As with the bouquet everything about this Chardonnay is refined. The passionfruit, pear and pineapple characters blend in with the elegant oak to explode in a fusion of flavours in the mouth. Just a hint of acid will ensure this wine is an enjoyable drink for 2-3 years. Drink with any white meat or seafood and also enjoyable as a BBQ white.
