Steve Wiblin’s 2012 Erin Eyes Merlot

A good year for Merlot in the Clare Valley with perfect ripening conditions allowing the grapes to achieve a perfect 13.5 baume. Aged in new and used French Oak for 21 months before selecting only the best barrels for the blend.

Aroma. Soft berry, with subtle herbs and spice nose.

Palate. A very generous palate mixing black cherry, soft plum and Italian herb characters. The finish has a nice clove spice and soft tannic grip. In a good vintage Merlot makes a wonderful food wine and compliments European style food especially various sausages such as Bratwurst and Kranski. Also brilliant with the Mediterranean flavours of Spain, Italy and Greece.
